Before you enter any personal or financial information, you will want to be sure that the website you are on is secure. How?

Look at the URL address of the website. If it begins with “https” instead of “http” it means the site is secured using an SSL Certificate (the "s" stands for secure). SSL Certificates secure all of your data as it is passed from your browser to the website's server. An illustration of a padlock often appears in the top bar of your browser page, or on the bottom right of the page on secure payment sites. This shows that the site is considered secure. Make sure that the domain name of the website you are viewing is spelled correctly. Look out for slight misspellings or odd formatting that could be easily overlooked.
